Learning Objectives

At the end of this course, you will have acquired the ability to:

• Explain each of the MSP principles, the governance themes and the transformational flow activities
• Understand the relationship between the MSP principles, governance themes, the transformational flow, programme information and the MSP defined programme management roles 
• Apply each of the MSP principles, governance themes and transformational flow processes
• Produce or evaluate examples of MSP programme information (documents)
• Identify activities that should be undertaken during each of the processes of the transformational flow, together with the responsibilities of each of the defined roles
• Take the Practitioner exam

Course Outline

The purpose of this Practitioner course is to provide delegates with a detailed knowledge of the foundation elements of MSP® and to better grasp this knowledge with some exercises focused on the understanding of the topics covered and other exercise

Throughout the course there will be exercises focused on the authorised case study and their related practitioner style questions. These exercises will be done at times in groups, and at times individually. Sometimes the task will be the assembly of a programme related diagram or simple document, sometimes the task will be to respond to a set of practitioner style questions.

Who should attend?

The course is of particular value to any individual who is actively involved in a programme, and who has already gained the MSP foundation qualification. This may include those who are managing programmes, those who are sponsoring and directing programmes, or indeed those working in projects to the requirements of a programme manager.

Roles include project managers, business change managers, experts and advisers working within a programme office as well as other specialist/governance roles involved in supporting programmes following the MSP guidance. This level is also suitable for SROs and those wishing to pursue higher level certifications (e.g. Programme Managers) and those aspiring to become programme management professionals in the future.

Prerequisites

Delegates must have passed the MSP Foundation exam. Those having attended the Foundation training some time ago must have refreshed their MSP 2011 knowledge prior to the course. Delegates should ideally have experience of managing or working in programmes prior to attending. Knowledge of the PRINCE2® project management method is advantageous, but by no means mandatory. Some exposure to a project management method will help you understand of how the programme works with these projects.

About the Exam

The MSP® Practitioner exam takes place one week after the training in our offices or web-proctored.

The purpose of the MSP Practitioner certification is to confirm whether candidates understand the MSP guidance well enough to apply it to their own work and are able act as an informed member of a programme management team. This means, someone responsible for managing, leading, supporting or advising on work within an MSP environment. Candidates should also be able to apply the MSP guidance in a relatively uncomplicated programme within an environment that uses MSP.
