The new PRINCE2® version 7 was lauched by PeopleCert on 4 September 2023.
PRINCE2® is a widely recognized, established and proven project management method that offers a structured, scalable, and tailorable approach to project management. Its focus on governance, risk management, and benefits realization sets it apart from other qualifications.
The PRINCE2 project management method has continued to evolve over the years since its first launch in 1996 thanks to the experience gained from a great many projects worldwide, as well as contributions of recognized professionals. It has been tried and tested by private, public, and third-sector organizations to successfully deliver products and services and to accompany transformational change.
By integrating agile concepts and emphasizing tailoring, the new edition of PRINCE2® aims to be more adaptable to diverse project environments. The digital revolution, the new and agile ways of working, the speed of change, the increased volatility and uncertainty in various aspects of live were the sign that project management and the PRINCE2 method had to change to meet these evolving demands.
This new version addresses the trends and challenges in project management today.
PRINCE2 7 now includes themes such as agile, digital transformation, tailoring and managing benefits to equip project managers with the tools, knowledge, skills, and flexibility manage their projects in this fast-evolving world. Keywords are Agile practices, tailoring, managing benefits.

What is new?
People play a key role in the success of a project. The new People chapter in PRINCE2 7 covers project staff, people affected by the project and the relationships between them.
The sustainability management approach has been added to measure sustainability performance targets for projects managed with PRINCE2.
Learn how digital technology will be used to support project management and project work and how data and information will be created, used, and managed across the project ecosystem, throughout the project lifecycle.
What has improved?
The fundamental elements of PRINCE2 have been maintained, whereas the rules have been reduced and the chapters rationalized to guarantee that PRINCE2 remains both adaptable and flexible for all types of projects across all sectors.
Throughout the official manual, terminology and content changes have been made to clarify language and expand audience reach.
- Enhanced tailoring for more agility
PRINCE2 7 considers adaptation to the project context, size, complexity, significance, delivery method, teamwork skills and risk level, to empower Project Mangers to act quickly and easily and to cope with changes or challenges.
What certification levels and delivery methods will be available?
As with version 6, PeopleCert offers foundation-level and practitioner-level certifications. Both exams maintainedthe same style as today, but the questions were completely new and entirely changed.
The PRINCE2 7 Foundation exam is a simple multipe-choice test whereas the Practitioner level is
a complex multiple-choice questions examination that tests the correct application and use of the method in practice, by mapping items from one column to another.
The new Practitioner exam is now based on one of four fictional, but realistic project scenarios used in the official manual to illustrate the method. This means students now have a familiar scenario during their exam.
The exams are available with in-class invigilation by your ATO, either computer-based or paper-based. Alternatively, we can provide candidates with an online proctored exam voucher, allowing them to take their exam(s) at a date and time of their choice.
Will there be transition modules or certifications?
PeopleCert does not provide bridging or transition modules. Candidates wishing to become PRINCE2 v7 certifiedmust take the new version 7 exam(s). However, B2B Learning offers a one-day training that focuses on thechanges between the versions to prepare v6 Foundation certificate holders for the new PRINCE2 v7 Foundation exam.
If I have a PRINCE2 v6 Foundation certificate, can I take the PRINCE2 7 Practitioner exam?
Candidates who have a v6 Foundation certificate are eligible to take the PRINCE2 v7 Practitioner exam. However, they will need to become familiar with the new manual, terminology, and topics (this is also true for PMI PMI/CAPM and IPMA). The formal pre-requisites to take the PRINCE2 v7 Practitioner exam includes:
- PRINCE2 Foundation 6th, please note that any version before PRINCE2 6h ed. will not be accepted.
- PRINCE2 7 Foundation,
- PMP or CAPM,
- IPMA all levels.
In what language(s) is PRINCE2 7 available?
At the time of writing this blog article, the new PRINCE2 v7 is only available in English. Other languages will be released in 2024. The French version is expected in Q1 2024.
What training documentation can I expect for the new edition of PRINCE2?
Participants to our courses will receive the digital version of the Official Training Materials (OTM) developed by PeopleCert. This set of materials include the learner workbook, a quick reference guide, the mock exams and much more. Candidates also receive the official Manual in eBook format for the Foundation level (delivered with the Foundation exam). Participants to the Practitioner level face to face courses will receive a hard copy of the official manual. This will be an option for in-company training and eLearning.
How long will PRINCE2 6th edition be available?
The former version will first be withdrawed in English and thereafter in the other languages, according to the launch of v7 in other languages. The exact date for the withdrawal of the English version has not been announced yet.
What courses will B2B Learning offer for PRINCE2 v7?
B2B Learning will offer 3 different courses, available in-class or live virtual:
- A 1-day PRINCE2 v7 Foundation Update course, for those who are already certified in PRINCE2 6th Edition and who want to quickly become certified in the latest version;
- A 3-day PRINCE2 v7 Foundation course, allowing candidates to acquire a good understanding of the PRINCE2 project management method.
- A 2-day PRINCE2 v7 Practitioner course, where participants will learn to apply and tailor PRINCE2 in practice, using 4 case studies, described in the official manual.
The Foundation and Practitioner levels will also be delivered in eLearning format.
