The 2-day Professional Scrum Master™ (PSM I) course is an interactive, activity-based learning experience that will give you a solid understanding of the professional use of the Scrum framework and the role of the Scrum Master.
Combining presentations, hands-on exercises and discussions, you will develop a deep understanding of the fundamental principles of Scrum and the agile mindset, as well as learning the practices used by successful Scrum teams.
This course is taught by a Professional Scrum Trainer (PST) and is an official Scrum.org training (PSM I).

Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this course, learners will:
- Be familiar with practices that help Scrum teams deliver value to their organisation.
- Be challenged to think within the Scrum framework and how each part of the Scrum framework relates back to the underlying values and principles to better understand what to do when returning to the workplace and facing complex decisions.
- Have a clear understanding of what uncertainty and complexity bring to product delivery, and the meaning and importance of the Scrum values to deal with them as a team.
- Have learnt what Done means and why it is crucial for transparency. Students will also know how to use the Product Backlog to plan with agility.
- Have a clear understanding of the rules of Scrum through the empirical foundation of Scrum, and understand the importance of self-managing teams and the interpersonal skills needed to start the continuous improvement cycle.
- Be able to act as a Scrum Master for Scrum Teams and Stakeholders from a deep understanding of self-management and will learn the skills, traits and behavioural changes required to be an effective Scrum Master.
- Have the skills to start using Scrum effectively and to increase the effectiveness of Scrum as you go.
- Have an understanding of Professional Scrum, the agile mindset and how to deal with common myths and barriers to agility. Gain knowledge and understanding of how to select and apply the appropriate practices and techniques that will be most beneficial to their Scrum teams.

During the course you will learn a number of Scrum (master) practices that you can use when you leave the classroom, while also receiving an introduction to increasing team effectiveness. After the class, you will have the opportunity to connect with peers and thought leaders to empirically and incrementally develop your skills in increasing team effectiveness through Scrum.

As collaboration is a key factor in the success of any initiative, it is equally important that Product Owners and other team members understand the role that Scrum Masters play in making the entire Scrum Team more efficient and effective in delivering value to the organisation and its customers.
Prerequisites
You will get the most out of the course if you have:
- read the Scrum Guide (required), available at https://scrumguides.org/scrum-guide.html
- taken the Scrum Open assessment, available at https://www.scrum.org/open-assessments/scrum-open
- a basic understanding of Scrum
- are involved in solving complex problems such as (but not limited to) building or improving a product or service
Certification
- All participants completing the Professional Scrum Master course will receive a password to attempt the Professional Scrum Master I (PSM I) assessment. The industry-recognized PSM I certification requires a minimum passing score of 85%. PSM class participants who attempt the PSM I assessment within 14 days of receiving their free password and do not score at least 85% will be granted a 2nd attempt at no additional cost.
- Students of official Scrum.org Professional Scrum Master classes are also entitled to a 40% discount on the PSM II assessment once passing PSM I.
- Students are able to claim Project Management Institute (PMI) PDU credits: 14 PDUs after attending a two-day Professional Scrum Master (PSM) course. Please note that PMI PDUs are earned for course attendance and not for passing a PSM I assessment. Students can claim PDUs under PMI’s “Education courses provided by other third-party providers” category.
